Touch screens have become the most popular
technology in recent years. Because touch
control is for users to intuitively operate
their systems, and it is therefore much more
satisfactory than any other input type that
exists. However, since it concerns user’s
intuitive inputs, the accuracy and stability
of a touch screen are strictly demanded.
PenMount touch control solution holds full
functionality and high quality and is also
provided with specifically developed drivers
that realizes user’s intuitive inputs.
The linearity of a resistive touch screen
deteriorates as it is used as time passes.
When the linearity gets really bad, the
accuracy of a touch screen will be impacted.
PenMount drivers are developed with a
calibration program that effectively
enhances the accuracy of a touch screen.
Although touch screen calibration is
supported by various popular Operating
Systems (such as Microsoft Windows Embedded
CE for 5-point calibration and QNX for
3-point calibration), only small extend of
rectification can be made by the native
calibration programs of these O.S, while
PenMount’s Calibrate presents the
calibration modes of 4-, 9-, 16-, and
25-points that are applicable for the touch
screens of various linearities.
Aside from the linearity calibration
feature, Edge Compensation is also made
available by PenMount. Edge Compensation
enables driver to automatically locate the
touched positions around the edges of a
touch screen while the touch screen’s
accuracy won’t get damaged by the bad
linearity at these areas, so that users can
easily select any graphic icons on screen
that appears adjacent to touch screen’s
edges to invoke any program. Hence Edge
Compensation particularly serves the O.S. of
Microsoft Windows, in which the Taskbar is
occasionally hidden by default and needs
user’s touch at the edge to be displayed.
The Edge Compensation featured by PenMount
driver comes in handy in such situation.
Another feature of PenMount driver is the
Beep Sound. For example, someone operating
an ATM with touch screen trying to transfer
money might not know if he/she has done all
he/she has to do to complete the transfer.
If there is an audio feedback to help
him/her confirm, he/she won’t mistake and
many troubles can be saved. Then again, the
Beep Sound of PenMount driver comes in handy
again.
PenMount drivers enable system’s buzzer or
audio speaker to make tip sound while the
timing, length, and frequency of the sound
to be given off are configurable. However,
there is one note that this feature varies
depending on the O.S. that you’re using.
Taking the buzzer for example, in Microsoft
Windows Vista 64 bit and in Windows 7,
buzzer isn’t supported. It is recommended
that you use audio speaker for sounding
device if you’re using either of the said
two O.S.
If you need to view or operate the touch
screen in other orientations, PenMount
drivers offer the orientation support of
ATI, nVIDIA and intel’s display chips. Your
touch on the screen will be correctly
located. Moreover, if there should be any
special requirement coming from customers,
such as setting up a physical button and
have the screen orientation executed through
pressing such button, PenMount team is also
pleased to discuss with you about the
implementation.
All of the functions mentioned above are
also featured by the PCI touch solution that
PenMount is going to launch soon. Although
the projected capacitive touch screen in
fact doesn’t need any additional calibration
of linearity, the other functions with
PenMount drivers will still greatly enhance
your touch system.
