Touch Screen Questions

1. Can PenMount PCI solution detect multiple-touch?

   • Yes, at present time PenMount PCI solution supports up to concurrent dual touches. Multiple-touch is currently under development.
      

2. Is there a conductive layer on the bottom of projected capacitive touch panel?

   • Yes. The bottom ITO layer is for shielding purpose.
      

3. How many touch does PenMount PCI support?

   • PenMount PCI touch solutions support dual touch and gestures.
      

4. Can PenMount PCI solution be operated under Windows 7?

   • Yes, PenMount’s PCI solution supports dual touch operation under Windows 7.
      

5. How long/short can the tail be?

   • The shorter the better. For reducing noise.
      

6. How thick can the Top Decor Glass be?

   • AMT PCI solutions support the cover glass from 1.1mm to 5mm depending on the size of touch panel.
      

7. What kind of PCI sensor surface coating does AMT have?

   • Clear, AG or AR.
      

8. What’s the transmission rate on 1.1mm clear surface glass?

   • 87% +/- 3%.
      

9. Can projected capacitive touch screen be operated when there is liquid on the surface?

   • Sometimes liquid on the surface of a projected capacitive touch screen might cause malfunction, which is a limit yet to be overcome for projected capacitive touch technology.
      

10. Can I operate a projected capacitive touch screen with gloved fingers?

    • AMT PCI touch panel with PenMount PCI control board are able to support operation with certain kinds of gloves: latex glove for medical and clean room, household latex glove, cotton glove and work glove, etc.
       

11. What’s the maximum size that PenMount projected capacitive controller supports?

    • From 3”to 15”projected capacitive touch panels are supported by PenMount projected capacitive controllers. Larger sizes are under development.

1. What is COF?

   • Chip on Flexible Print Circuit, or “COT” (chip on tail): the controller IC is mounted on touch panel’s tail.
      

2. What are the interfaces and sizes that PenMount projected capacitive controller supports?

3. Which IC does PenMount PCI use?

   • PenMount PCI touch controllers use Microchip ICs.
      

4. Does PenMount provide PCI controllers with COF design?

   • Yes, but an additional NRE fee will be charged and MOQ limitation is 50K.
      

5. What operating systems does PenMount capacitive touch controller support?

   • The operating systems supported by PenMount PCI controllers are listed below. You can download the appropriate drivers from the [ Download ] page. 6. How to update the firmware of PenMount projected capacitive controllers?

   • PenMount offers field update Utility for customers.
      

7. Can the parameters of PenMount projected capacitive controllers be adjusted?

   • PenMount provides PCIMSet Utility for adjusting the sensitivity and the direction of X and Y axes.
      

8. Can I just purchase PenMount PCI IC and integrate it into my own system?

   • PenMount provides complete PCI total solution, including control board and firmware; however. PCI IC can’t be sold separately.
      

9. What projected capacitive technology does PenMount PCI controllers employ?

   • PenMount projected capacitive controllers use mutual capacitance technology, and to locate the touch position by driving and sensing line.
      

10. Can PenMount projected capacitive touch controllers work with the touch sensors from other manufacturers?

    • PenMount projected capacitive controllers can work with any PCI sensors which follow the design  specifications of Microchip IC.
